INTRODUCTION TO IMPULSE

"Scott totally changed my concept of what it is to act.”  - Sam Smith

“...the most enlightening week of training I’ve ever had.”  - Marika Aubrey

Join us for 5 transformative days that will reconnect you to the joy, truth, and power of your craft.

💥In need of a practical, reliable acting technique that actually works?

💥Looking for a grounded, joyful process that gets you out of your head and into your body?

💥Want to train with one of the world’s leading Meisner teachers?

This intensive is led by Scott Williams—the UK’s leading Meisner teacher, and one of the very few remaining with direct lineage to Sanford Meisner himself.

You’ll dive deep into Meisner’s definition of what it is to act —“living truthfully under a given set of circumstances.” From foundational Repetition to text, you’ll build your technique step by step in a supportive, invigorating environment.

Whether you're new to Meisner or ready to deepen your practice, this is five days of truth, connection, and creative fire.

WHO IS IT FOR?

Come back to what you love about acting.

Whether you're a seasoned professional or someone looking to deepen your connection to the craft, this workshop is designed to bring clarity, joy, and truth back into your work.

✔️ For trained actors who feel like they’re working too hard or missing a vital spark—come rediscover the ease and satisfaction of technique that truly supports you.

✔️ For working professionals, juggling fast-paced TV/film shoots or sustaining long theatre runs—refine your ability to drop in quickly and truthfully, no matter the pressure.

✔️ For newer performers exploring this work for the first time—develop grounded skills in presence, responsiveness, and emotional truth that will elevate everything you do.

No matter where you're starting from, this is a space to reconnect, re-energize, and work with depth and delight.

“Scott encourages actors to deal with what really goes on when they engage with another in their work. Under his astute eye and caring guidance, the walls come down and the results can be messy, visceral and raw, but thrilling and alive.”
- Julian Garner (Operation Buffalo, Home & Away, Janet King)

FAQs

Who are the course tutors? (AU)

Aside from Scott's mid-year annual visit, our regular classes are designed by him and taught by our Australian faculty who have trained with Scott as both actors and teachers. These are Sam Smith and Matt Minto in Sydney and Erica Chestnut in Melbourne. Regular classes include our Modules, Drop-Ins and, on occasion, play-in-a-month.

What happens if I need to defer a Module?

Once you have signed up and paid your deposit, you have access to all three modules at a time that suits you. Whilst most people tend to do their 3 modules one after the other, occasionally an actor may book a job, or life happens, and you need to put it on hold. Let us know that you need to defer, and when you would like to jump back in, and we will find a place for you.

How big are the class sizes?

Class sizes vary, but are unlikely to consist of more than 20 people. Between eight and 15 has been the average over the 20 years that we’ve been training actors.

Because the Technique is experiential, classes are practical and are, we believe, unique in the amount of personal tuition and feedback you’ll receive.

Where do I begin with the Year-Long course?

The majority of students will begin with Module 1, Living Truthfully. Even if you’ve done an introductory course with us, or elsewhere, it can only give you a flavour of what the Technique can deliver.

Students who have already have a significant body of experience with The Impulse Company may begin with either Module 2 – The Given Set of Circumstances – or Module 3 – A State of Aliveness, using it as a showcase opportunity, with Scott’s agreement.

Will Scott be my teacher in Australia?

Scott visits Australia annually, and teaches each of the courses himself. These are usually Introduction to Impulse, Advancing Impulse, Play-in-a-Fortnight and Advancing Impulse for Screen. Eve Morey joins us in Melbourne for the screen portion of the Advancing Impulse on Screen workshop.
