Spend 3 days diving deep into your existing Meisner technique and working with classic text (think Chekhov, Williams (Tennessee), Inge, Odets, Ibsen).
The workshop will be taught by internationally renowned teacher, director, and Artistic Director Scott Williams, who studied with Sanford Meisner at The Neighbourhood Playhouse and has over 40 years of experience teaching this work globally. He returns to Australia with his inspiring series of workshops designed to empower and deepen the work of today’s actor.
“Scott encourages actors to deal with what really goes on when they engage with another in their work. Under his astute eye and caring guidance, the walls come down and the results can be messy, visceral and raw, but thrilling and alive.”
- Julian Garner (Operation Buffalo, Home & Away, Janet King)

Aside from Scott's mid-year annual visit, our regular classes are designed by him and taught by our Australian faculty who have trained with Scott as both actors and teachers.
Once you have signed up and paid your deposit, you have access to all three modules at a time that suits you. Whilst most people tend to do their 3 modules one after the other, occasionally an actor may book a job, or life happens, and you need to put it on hold. Let us know that you need to defer, and when you would like to jump back in, and we will find a place for you.
Class sizes vary, but are unlikely to consist of more than 20 people. Between eight and 15 has been the average over the 20 years that we’ve been training actors.
Because the Technique is experiential, classes are practical and are, we believe, unique in the amount of personal tuition and feedback you’ll receive.
The majority of students will begin with Module 1, Living Truthfully. Even if you’ve done an introductory course with us, or elsewhere, it can only give you a flavour of what the Technique can deliver.
Students who have already have a significant body of experience with The Impulse Company may begin with either Module 2 – The Given Set of Circumstances – or Module 3 – A State of Aliveness, using it as a showcase opportunity, with Scott’s agreement.
Scott visits Australia annually, and teaches each of the courses himself. These are usually Introduction to Impulse, Advancing Impulse, Play-in-a-Fortnight, Scene into Song - The Impulse to Sing, and Advancing Impulse for Screen. Some of these courses are taught alongside other industry professionals.
