This 5-Day Intensive Workshop is designed for actors who wish to translate their existing Meisner training into a professional screen context.
You will work for 3 days on your technique and text with Scott, then spend 2 days at GormanWorks, where you will work with renowned Director/Actor, Eve Morey, using a 3-camera set-up with instant playback, screen practicals and scene direction.
Scenes will be available to download once the course has finished.
There will be a final debrief with Scott after the screen portion, currently scheduled for Sat 26th, time TBC.
Previous experience with the Meisner Technique is essential and entry is by application only.
Applications are accepted on a rolling basis - this means places are offered as applications come in. Apply quickly to secure a place. Applications close June 29th.
This course is designed for those who have completed Introduction to Impulse, Module 3 (text), or equivalent training elsewhere, and are looking to integrate their existing technique in a screen environment.
“Scott Williams’ approach to acting totally changed my concept of what it is to act. I was, for the first time, able to let go of a number of 'techniques' I believed I needed and was able to simply deal with the given moment and respond to it truthfully.”
- Sam Smith, Actor (Jirga, The Invisible Man, The Nightingale)

Aside from Scott's mid-year annual visit, our regular classes are designed by him and taught by our Australian faculty who have trained with Scott as both actors and teachers. These are Sam Smith and Matt Minto in Sydney and Erica Chestnut in Melbourne. Regular classes include our Modules, Drop-Ins and, on occasion, play-in-a-month.
Once you have signed up and paid your deposit, you have access to all three modules at a time that suits you. Whilst most people tend to do their 3 modules one after the other, occasionally an actor may book a job, or life happens, and you need to put it on hold. Let us know that you need to defer, and when you would like to jump back in, and we will find a place for you.
Class sizes vary, but are unlikely to consist of more than 20 people. Between eight and 15 has been the average over the 20 years that we’ve been training actors.
Because the Technique is experiential, classes are practical and are, we believe, unique in the amount of personal tuition and feedback you’ll receive.
The majority of students will begin with Module 1, Living Truthfully. Even if you’ve done an introductory course with us, or elsewhere, it can only give you a flavour of what the Technique can deliver.
Students who have already have a significant body of experience with The Impulse Company may begin with either Module 2 – The Given Set of Circumstances – or Module 3 – A State of Aliveness, using it as a showcase opportunity, with Scott’s agreement.
Scott visits Australia annually, and teaches each of the courses himself. These are usually Introduction to Impulse, Advancing Impulse, Play-in-a-Fortnight and Advancing Impulse for Screen. Eve Morey joins us in Melbourne for the screen portion of the Advancing Impulse on Screen workshop.
