Scene into Song - The Impulse to Sing 2026 (MELB)

This course is designed for highly competent singers. Please only apply if you meet this criteria.

A 5-Day Music Theatre Intensive.

I completed my first week-long course in London with Scott and it was the most stimulating and enlightening week of training I’d ever had. Scott steered my process in a whole new - and easier, simpler, honest - direction. I returned to London and straight away sought to work with Scott again. He remains a joyous human being, a clear and thorough teacher, and once again I found myself leaving class each day on a high".
- Marika Aubrey, (Matilda, Aus Tour, Come From Away NA Tour, South Pacific, Aus Tour)

How do you bring impulse and truth to your Music Theatre work? How do you transition from scene to song; maintaining connection, emotional authenticity and vocal technique?  How do you keep it fresh and ‘in the moment’ on show 137!?

💥In need of a practical, reliable acting technique that actually works?

💥Looking for a grounded, joyful process that gets you out of your head and into your body?

Join Scott Williams (UK’s leading Meisner teacher) and Adrian Tamburini (Opera Australia, Melbourne Opera Company) as they work alongside each other to develop your technique in both scene and song.

You will work on the foundations of the Meisner Technique with Scott and apply them to a Music Theatre scene and the transition  into song. Students will also deepen their vocal technique with Adrian - in a 5-day Intensive designed to give you an introduction into the Meisner technique and how to embed this work into your existing Music Theatre practice.

To note:

A singing audition submission is required for this course. Songs and pairings will be allocated to successful applicants 2 weeks before the course start date.

FAQs

Who are the course tutors? (AU)

Aside from Scott's mid-year annual visit, our regular classes are designed by him and taught by our Australian faculty who have trained with Scott as both actors and teachers.

What happens if I need to defer a Module?

Once you have signed up and paid your deposit, you have access to all three modules at a time that suits you. Whilst most people tend to do their 3 modules one after the other, occasionally an actor may book a job, or life happens, and you need to put it on hold. Let us know that you need to defer, and when you would like to jump back in, and we will find a place for you.

How big are the class sizes?

Class sizes vary, but are unlikely to consist of more than 20 people. Between eight and 15 has been the average over the 20 years that we’ve been training actors.

Because the Technique is experiential, classes are practical and are, we believe, unique in the amount of personal tuition and feedback you’ll receive.

Where do I begin with the Year-Long course?

The majority of students will begin with Module 1, Living Truthfully. Even if you’ve done an introductory course with us, or elsewhere, it can only give you a flavour of what the Technique can deliver.

Students who have already have a significant body of experience with The Impulse Company may begin with either Module 2 – The Given Set of Circumstances – or Module 3 – A State of Aliveness, using it as a showcase opportunity, with Scott’s agreement.

Will Scott be my teacher in Australia?

Scott visits Australia annually, and teaches each of the courses himself. These are usually Introduction to Impulse, Advancing Impulse, Play-in-a-Fortnight, Scene into Song - The Impulse to Sing, and Advancing Impulse for Screen. Some of these courses are taught alongside other industry professionals.
